Final presentation

For our first group project we teamed up in 4s and visited 2 galleries to get inspiration and to look for an artist to create a response to. This artist was Mark Dion. before creating any animations we discussed how we could response to his interesting and unique work and we noticed that he tends to use a lot of juxtaposition in his art work for example he would have fish hanging on a tree with various other objects. His work is all about showcasing collections and random objects and we wanted to communicate this in our animations. This lead to the idea of a tree sprouting and objectives emerging from it. 

For the animation we wanted to make it have some mixed media so we have traditional animation, motion graphics,and paper cut animation. Firstly I animated the tree sprouting scenes and the fish hanging using straight ahead animation. I then sent the tree animations to my team members and they added there unique styles to the tree  resulting in a successful 20 second animation responding to Dion’s artist style. 

I really enjoyed doing this project and working in a team because we all had some amazing ideas and and our team work was successful as we handed in our work on time and had fun making it .

The first piece we had to do for introduction to animation was taking 20 images of random objects which could lead to a possible narrative or that creates a series of individual  connotations.

To do this we all had a meeting and came up with possibilities for example I have a couple images of rubbish and a bin as well as a dead flower. So my narrative is a bin which is full of rubbish and is wrapped in chains being carried away by a bin man down the streets of London, as the bin passes any sign of nature it becomes shrivelled and and loses all its saturation. This narrative could have a connotation of how waste is destroying the environment . 

My main concept for my 3D story worlds was to create a room for my character design project, I wanted to make a room that had a cozy and night vibe with some neon colours and shades of blue. I used blender for this piece and I found it very difficult but tutorials helped a lot and I was able to create a room., This is one of the hardest rotations I’ve experienced because I found the program confusing and there are lots of shortcuts to remember. However I am happy with the outcome. If I had more time to do this project again I would definitely take the time to learn the program so that I’m able to make more creative and ambitious pieces.

I chose winter as my theme ,when I think of winter I think of quiet and stillness, I also think of loneliness and how it’s a good thing , my character is a artist who’s only concentration is to get better and explore her new environment which is a place that’s snows heavy during winter and because of this people stay home. This is the reason its her favourite season, not many people about, being able to wear warm clothes and the fresh cold air that appears thick after every exhale. Painting outdoors is also a favourite. To begin my character design I began by doodling some ideas I had and took inspiration from Pinterest. I then redrew my character in lots of different ways till I was happy with the outcome . My initial Idea was to create a warm toned character to communicate a calm person however it was giving me a autum vibe rather than winter so I decided to change her desgin to lighter tones.
I’m really happy with how it turned out however if I was to do it again I think I would try and add something that makes the character unique .

for my initial idea I was going to design a child character who is excited about winter however I changed my mind and decided to design a women who is content with being alone on her own during winter, especially as winter is a calm and still winter as most people will be at home all warm and cosy with their family.
